1.0 out of 5 stars Great Tv for the first few months..., 23 April 2013

We just wanted a good quality TV without the frills...and initially we were very pleased with the picture quality of this one. Unfortunately the sound started playing up after 3 months...sounding like a dalek for anything between 5 and 30 minutes. So we just played sound straight from a separate Freeview tuner through a sound system. Then a few weeks ago the TV became temperamental about being turned on. Sometimes we would have to keep pressing the on/off for 10 minutes or unplugging and waiting 10 minutes or so. And now it's stopped working completely. But then I suppose by modern standards it is old at 6 months.
(I could have got this TV cheaper elsewhere but I chose Amazon because on the couple of occasions something has gone wrong in the past they have been helpful and efficient, unlike other retailers who try to wriggle out of their responsibilities. Yet again and to my great relief they have been helpful.)

Picked this up from Argos a couple of days ago to replace a £1600 worth of 40" Sony, which gave up the ghost on about 5 years. I recently bought a 32" LG more than pleased with it, so had no hesitation in going for this 42" LG. It does everything I want from it like a good picture and resonable sound, I'm no specialist buff but at £345 with a £10 voucher thrown in, I thought was great value and can't really see the point in paying mega bucks for all the bits and pieces you don't need. I recently bought a sound bar for the now defunct Sony, but this LG model doesn't have an optical connection. However, it does have 5 speakers so the sound is more than reasonable. For another £30 you can get the 3D version, but as I don't have Sky that would have been a waste. So overall, more than satisfied and would recommend and buy again.

Had this TV for a few months now and am still very impressed by it. The colour is great and the perfect size for my lounge. I did a lot of TV searching before I bought this one and still believe I made a good choice.

Had the TV since August. Absolutly no problems with it.
Picture is as amazing as you could ask for with a HD tv.
The quick settings so you can change the picture colours from Sport - Vivid - Cinema etc all work fine and are good for different room lightings aswell as the Eco-save power settings to change the brightness settings
The speakers are not very loud, but that has to be expected on a thin TV, however they are not bad.
I use it between two rooms and its every easy to set up in both rooms, its not very heavy at all.
only SLIGHT problem is that it has no memory so the clock doesnt stay set.. but that isnt the biggest of issues.
Love how i can plug a USB Hard drive (250GB) into the tv via USB and play Songs/Films/Pics straight off it, even show a picture slideshow while listening to music.
Also, if you happen to listen to the radio or just want sound coming out of the TV there is a button on the remote which just turns the TV off but keeps the sound, which is a wonderful thought, and thus uses alot less of that expensive eleccy to power the TV.
Really is a stunning TV.

I don't often do reviews but this TV does all I expected, and some other reviews suggest difficulties. So, just for the record, it arrived in three days (super saver delivery!), I connected it to my PVR and DVD player and it worked. No need for complex adjustments to settings etc, it worked just the way it was delivered.
I had read some reviews that downrate it for not having an audio output, I share that view but it is easily remedied with a scart adapter that sits in the scart socket between the TV and external devices (PVR, DVD etc...). OK you have to switch it to select TV sound or external device sound but that's a small price to pay, I already had one of these devices so I was confidant that I could play the TV sound through my stereo. I know that truly diligent reviewers would provide a link to the adapter at this juncture, but I'm sure that a search will be rewarding.
I am delighted with the picture quality of this TV, and the sound quality from it's own speakers is acceptable (not excessively thin as one reviewer suggested).

It`s faultless. I`ve read some reviews where the sound quality has been criticised but personally we`ve not found it a problem.

Thinking back to when it first came out of it`s box I think a little more paper documentation to help initial set-up would have helped us.
