'I don't like it' - at the moment - Had great expectations for this item, previous boxes with less disc space and dual freeview tuners have worked perfectly over the years. Sadly this box is OK with individually recording programmes on the EPG that are spaced apart in time but recording one programme after another consecutively, either on the same channel or on different channels the box locks up, records the first programme only after which no further recording happens and to correct the fault I have to unplug to reset the unit.
It has a good EPG but no good for setting future recordings if they are a block of consecutive programmes, ( one after the other). I am hoping this is only a glich with the chipset and may settle down or I will return the unit as faulty.

Set up on this unit is not straightforward and setting up the SMART functions involves downloading software to your PC from Samsung, something that is not clear in the set up guide.
However, it has transformed a very ordinairy 1080p, HD Ready TV into a very good TV, especially when viewing Sport on HD.
I would buy this again.

I have owned this unit for 4 months now, and it has worked fine up until two weeks ago. 4 times I have found the unit to have frozen overnight, I assume during an auto update as no recording was in progress at the time. Guess this is some duff update that has been pushed, I have disabled auto updates and seems stable again.

Will update this post if a future s/w update fixes the problem otherwise unit may get returned as i have lost recordings as a result

Two weeks later.....
Since disabling auto updated, this product has proven very reliable, so update my star rating from 2 to 4

Product worked ok but had difficulty tuning in to several stations. When the product arrived it was unwrapped, and the box was damaged and torn and it was supposed to be a present.

I bought this after looking at lots of reviews as it seemed to do everything I wanted. It was easy to set up, and had all the features I needed. Both picture and sound were great and recordings looked as good as the live broadcasts. However, it can be very slow to respond e.g. HDMI handshaking can take up to 45 seconds and there were intermittent periods when fast forwarding through the adverts on a recording would suddenly flip forwards several minutes when I pressed play, so that I had to rewind to find the point where I wanted to start watching the programme again. Also, deleting programmes is very time consuming and DNLA connectivity was a bit hit and miss. Overall, I gave this four stars because most of the software problems should be corrected in future updates, but I wasn't willing to wait and, fair play to Amazon, they refunded my money without a problem.

Was disappointed that this box could not connect via WiFi to my network, particularly since I experienced no problem connecting my iPad, iPod and Kindle devices to my network. I have had to buy a cable, which works fine, but defeats the purpose in having a WiFi. Set-Top box. I am very happy with every other aspect, - the guide, recording, Samsung Apps etc,

After reading other reviews I decided to buy this and send it back if it didn't perform as expected. I plugged the HDMI output into my TV and an aerial and a network cable transmitting 60M broadband into the Samsung. So far this thing does exactly what the sales blurb describes. Not sure why people are having problems with this product.

My main concern was the web browsing capabilities/restrictions/performance. So far I've only used the remote control for this feature and it's pretty decent. The up, down, left, right buttons move the mouse around the screen like joypad buttons. This may sound tedious but the remote can switch to a different mode, where these buttons let you switch from one link to another.

The included manual contains codes, to initiate control of both TV and the PVR using the single Samsung remote, but my TV (a six month old Toshiba) hasn't responded yet. Maybe I got the special move wrong.... I own the TV remote so this is only a very slight niggle as I only really have to use the TV remote to ride the volume levels between channels etc.

Overall this thing is very decent and will deliver the goods, without buffering or any other silly glitches.

I have to say Sansung have the technology and I got the impression that they wanted to cram it all into one box, with loads of apps which are unnecessary. The user interface is for and very fiddly to adjust (Humax have put much more thought into it), However, I was very happy with the picture, very good on Hd and non hd. The main problem I encountered was my recordings would freeze on playback. All in all not a good product leaving me with the impression that it was put together in a hurry without enough planning and foresight. Having said that, I am very happy with my Humax hd fox t2, more basic but so easy to use.

Following a whole host of excellent reviews I decided to buy the Samsung STB-E7500 - it was a mistake. The system cannot play files from my NAS (D-Link 320)or my WD 2TB External HDD through the USB. Samsung customer service confirmed that the AllShare software and the GUI on the device cannot view either of the drives and that the WD HDD is probably too big for the device to view. The device is fine if you stick to playing media from a PC but AllShare has some interesting idiosyncrasies where NAS saved files when viewed through a PC only appear if the file is modified or copied. The workaround I have come up with is to copy file from the NAS onto a PC, watch the film through the device and then delete at the end. I haven't explored all of the other functionality on the device but my recommendation is to only buy it if you have limited network expectations.

I bought this a few weeks ago to replace a 5 year old Humax which increasingly failed to record the programme set (and I was fed up for getting the blame for from the missus!). I have a 2010 Samsung 40" LED tv and matching Samsung BluRay play - I had always been a Sony man but I've come to really like the style and quality of the Samsung product (I have a Netbook, Galaxy S2 etc), but was wary of some of the comments here.

However, overall I am impressed - yes, there is a few extra buttons to push to get to a recording and the functionality is nowhere near as good as the Humax was, but the quality of the picture and Smart TV features more than make up for this. It doesn't take long to learn the process and if you are familiar with other Samsung menus you will easily find your way around.

Still, one thing disappoints. I have my TV linked up to a high end hifi including Arcam amp (AVR200 c2004)and B & W 5 speaker system and while the TV and BluRay switch the amp to Dolby Digital and back seemlessly, the STB does not, only occaisionally switching it to DTS for no particular reason. I have tried all the settings, but note in the manual it talks of the STB transmitting digital signals in bitstream rather than DD so I suspect it may be down to the age of my amp - plus it doesn't have HDMI input which would fix it I am sure. If anyone out there has any other ideas how to fix this, let me know.
