No probs. Did what I wanted. This product might be so called old hat but if you have a freeview hard drive you can run out of space. But as long as you have Discs you are O.K. 4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value DVD Recorder, 15 Mar 2013

very happy with product, just bought if for recording directly onto a DVD from a video camera. Not interested in the TV recording part haven't even looked at that part. The beauty of this DVD recorder is, it records in real time eg it records the clip/film you are playing from your video camera at the same time. Could not be more simpler , using a computer is very time consuming and really only needed for the professional looking clips, however with the above DR20 you can press pause (on the DR20) while recording on the dr20 to make sure any camera looking at the floor parts are not recorded onto disk. 5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY, 12 Mar 2013

Nice quality. Easily reads my DVDs created by my old Liteon DVD Recorder. Much better quality than Liteon. Have recorded on Maxell and TDK RW Media without any issues. 5.0 out of 5 stars Toshiba DVD recorder, 5 Mar 2013

Virgin coming to upgrade my service including a new TV box and needed to transfer my recorded programs to disc before they come (as they wont move them to the new box). This product seemed good value for money to achieve what i want to do.Arrived really quickly and once got leads plugged in (and virgin box configured correctly to give an analogue signal rather than just digital as the recorder needs a scart input rather than HDMI) got to grips with recording programs already stored on Virgin box to DVD . Quickly worked out how to insert new chapter markers and hide advert breaks easily (look at pages 55, 57 & 58 of manual).
Good value for money !

I purchased this DVD recorder so I could record programmes to DVD and free-up space on my Virgin TiVo and V+HD boxes. For this purpose it works just perfectly. I don't use the Freeview function so cannot comment on that. Before purchase, I downloaded the instruction book in pdf form from the Toshiba site and read through it to see what it would do. Satisfied it would fulfil my needs I went ahead and purchased it.
One aspect that I think is worth mentioning is that if you’re only going to view your DVDs on an old style 4:3 aspect ratio TV then you can use either +DVDs or -DVDs. However, if you want to view your recorded DVDs on a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio TV then you should only use –DVDs. This is because on a +DVD disc the program will record in 4:3 format (even if the program was broadcast in widescreen), and you will get black bars on each side of the picture.
Overall, I’m very pleased with this recorder.

I have four DR19/DR20s in my house and the only reason I persevere with them is due to my desire to keep the programming and useage simple and memorable. Had I otherwise, I would have changed to another manufacturer some while ago as I have now experience of no less than SEVEN of these machines. The principle problems have been their reliability to record as programmmed; either by using the EPG system or by setting it up manually. An occasional failure due to the EPG system is arguably more understandable as it could be unrelated to the machine but on manual programming, not so. The failures have either resulted in nothing being recorded, or just 15 minutes of a recording that was manually set for over one hour. If this is an episod of a broadcast serial, this is predicatbly MOST irritating. It does seem surprising that Toshiba seems able to make such a basic machine with such dreadful unreliablility.
Purchase Toshiba at your peril.
