After researching and reading reviews for months I decided to plump for Samsung's LED option - I was more than pleased with the immediate result. The TV is the slimmest I have seen and none of the 'searchlight' problems other reviewers seem to experience were apparent - I have a perfect picture in all lighting conditions. Blu-Ray is frighteningly good - I watched Body of Lies and the realistic pictures created a totally different viewing experience. Sound quality is good and the set-up was very simple. Whilst my area waits for Freeview HD I can still enjoy the best standard definition I have seen on any LCD/LED.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was concerned by reviews talking about searchlight, 8 Oct 2010

I have had this TV for a month now and the picture quality is excellent. I was really concerned before purchasing as I had seen two other reviews querying the searchlight effect in the corners of the screen. I am happy to say that I have not had this issue at all and the lack of volume of negative reviews meant i finally plucked up the courage to buy one anyway. Picture quality on Freeview HD is outstanding, not just the HD channels but also the SD channels too. The sound quality is good and I have also used it for Xbox 360 at 1080p with excellent results. I haven't got the Motion plus tech turned out as I feel the natural picture is good enough. Its wafer thin, very pretty and I am very pleased with the set. Previously I have only had Panasonic Plasmas but I am happy to say that this is certainly a match for them.

I chose this set for its dynamic colour picture though I enjoy viewing at fairly low contrast levels and don't have the screen set to its own Dynamic setting. The apps and internet TV are excellent though I am disappointed that the i LOVE Film app has a very poor selection of films to stream.

I hope the addition of the review will help people that have viewed this TV in a real store feel more comfortable with purchasing it, I agonised for ages for no reason.

Although this TV is an aesthetic gem with its graphite frame and ultra thin design I had to return it due to issues with the quality of the picture. In normal lighting conditions the picture appeared fine with crisp visuals and vivid upscaling from both analogue and digital sources. Indeed using a five year old Philips video sender to transmit SKY pictures to the bedroom where the TV was positioned results in images that were produced were stunning. However, when it came to viewing movies in a darkened room an aberration was visible all across the screen. Each corner of the display was grey/off white when viewing dark or black backgrounds, a problem particularly noticeable if watching a wide screen movie with black bars. No manner of picture adjustment or changes to the backlight settings could eliminate the problem and I had to admit defeat when a number of Internet forums indicated that this problem was well known enough to to have its own name "the searchlight effect"; the consensus appears to be that the edge mounted backlights are interfering with one another, creating several areas of patchy or blotchy overly-light blooms that spoils the integrity of the image. perhaps the tech is too new or that full LED backlighting is the way to go or that this was simply a bad batch. Anyway, I have replaced the TV with a Sony 503EX, a bit bulkier and older ( perhaps more mature ) tech and the spare change allowed for both a new Blu-Ray player and rather nice stand. Kudos to Amazon, the returns policy and process was flawless.
