Product Overview

42" Smart VIERA Plasma TV - FULL HD 3D Picture Quality for Sports and Networking. The display alternately shows images for the left and right eyes. The left and right lenses of the eyewear open and close in sync with this display timing to show separate images to the left and right eyes. By repeating this action at high speed, the brain perceives 3D images. And because this method displays FULL HD 3D images just as they are, both eyes receive 3D images in high, full-HD quality. This original Panasonic technology detects image movements like the human eye, and optimises the drive accordingly. By achieving instantaneously powerful light emission rather than finely divided emission, it reduces the afterimages that cause blurring. As a result, fast movement is reproduced with excellent clarity.

Fantastic TV, my first Plasma and I am very impressed with the quality of the image.

It is worth noting that you will probably spend hours adjusting the settings to get the image right, and it is worth it to remove the slightest amount of judder.

A great price on amazon for a 50inch 3D TV there can be no hesitation.

I bought this from comet, I got it for £450 before they closed with 2 free pairs of 3D glasses from Panasonic. Best bargain I have bought in my whole life. I had and LG LW450u Passive 3D, which was AMAZING, it was brighter than this TV but the 3D was passive and the lag on gaming online led to my mental frustration, I went from being amazing on MW3 to a NOOB! 35 MS LAG on the LG. So I bought the Panasonic and it has like 0.01 MS LAG! Almost instantaneous pwnage! Panasonic have really done well, the 3D is beautiful, the tv has nice sound, a bit unclear but you can modify it with user EQ, and the picture quality is like I have never seen before! Just breathtaking, I just watched The new Amazing Spiderman on Blu-Ray, the best picture I have seen on any tv! I would recommend this tv and bet my life on it that you will love it! The only thing I can fault this tv for is it only has 2 HDMI points, but you can buy things on amazon, HDMI switchers with remotes and stuff to turn that 2 into 6 if need be. When using this tv, I would recommend leaving it on GAME mode and also to activate advanced settings in the menu options so you can choose gamma setting and set it to S-Curve so it is brighter, put your contrast on its highest, keep sharpness just under half way and colour about half way and brightness a 3'rd from the end :), vivid colour on, colour balance cool, C.A.T.S. off. So in short this TV is like Mila Kunis. Beautiful, Elegant and you wouldn't return her. 9.5/10 ( the 0.5 only due to the 2 HDMI, an extra 2 couldn't have hurt Panasonic )

4.0 out of 5 stars Great TV, but you do not need the expensive WIFI dongle., 6 Jan 2013

I bought this after using a non 3D Panasonic 42 HD plasma. This one suffers from the same problem with reflections but is actually a bit better. I like the non 3 D picture on this one better, although the lower pixel density does show a bit. The main reason I bought this was for the extra size, but the smart features do seem useful, although I haven't explored them properly yet.

Won't comment on the sound as I do use the built in speakers on any flat screen TV, I connect them to my active speakers.

I have also not yet tried the 3D part as I did not buy 3D glasses yet, but will update the review once I do try this and the smart features.

One thing about the WIFI connectivity, don't buy the expensive Panasonic dongle. I am using a TP Link TL'MR3020, which costs almost a third, will do many more things, and once you set it up with your WIFI network username and password and set it to client mode, you just plug it into the ethernet connection of the TV, change the settings in the panasonic for wired netwrok and it just works. Mine required a reboot of the TP Link, but after that all good. As far as the TV is concerned you are using a wired connection, so Panasonic can't enforce any restrictions.

Will update this soon after using the TV a bit.

What more can I add to what's been written already, this TV is everything you'd ever want for your living room, it has it all and the picture and sound are just perfect. I'm not technically minded so I won't pretend to be, it would have been nice to not to have to buy two wifi adapters: one for the TV and one for the Panasonic blu ray player, it's a shame the HDMI cable couldn't carry the wifi signal from one to the other, with just one adapter. I haven't tried the 3d function just yet as my free glasses haven't arrived yet, these were on offer while registering the TV and blu ray along with two movies, which was helpful as the glasses are quite expensive.
The Internet apps are a little limited and there's no RTE Player (I live in Republic of Ireland) hopefully this will come soon.
Overall though I'm very pleased with this TV and its features, it's a great price also.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but some pretty big flaws, 2 Dec 2012

OK, so I never write reviews at all, however on this occasion I feel compelled to.

First off this is a great TV - picture quality is awesome and build quality is typical Panasonic.

Sound is so-so... good depth but lacking clarity. I have this on the wall in one room and in the next room I have an LG 47 inch, also on the wall. I stream HD TV through the power cabling with the panasonic being patched direct into the source - the sound on the LG has noticeably more clarity.

And now on to the real flaws..

Someone at Panasonic saw fit to position the HDMI ports on the BACK of the TV !!!!!!!!!!! without purchasing adapters how are you supposed to wall mount - you can't !!! There are only 2 HDMI ports which are inaccessible once the TV is mounted on the wall - plus it's quite a heavy beast so not the sort of TV you'd want to continually mount and dismount to connect other devices. Worth thinking ahead and patching in 2 HDMI cables or a splitter in preparation.

Second issue - the optional wireless adapter - this is so large it sticks out from the side of the TV (at least one Panasonic bright spark placed the USB ports on the side). LG design is way better, with all ports accessible from the side and adapters etc. hidden.

Prefer to use RJ45 instead of wireless? - Good luck, the ethernet port is - surprise, surprise, on the BACK of the TV !!

Little more design thought required by Panasonic

I watched the olympics on this tv, and the 3D broadcast was stunning with the glasses which i bought seperately. As soon as you switch the glasses on it shows the amount of charge on the screen, a full charge only takes 20 min approx. the software has updated the internet which is brilliant looking at web sites on a 42 inch screen, aswell as youtube, BBC iplayer, BBC sport etc,etc

Yes the TV is highly reflective but if, like me, you only watch it at night/can easily control the light levels in the room then I'd struggle to see how anyone could be disappointed. Picture quality is immense.

The TV does make a light buzzing sound at times but it isn't particularly noticeable and doesn't detract from my overall impression of the TV.

This is an exceptional TV. I can live with the iffy audio and shortage of HDMI inputs as I have everything running through an AV Receiver. Anyone who appreciates Hi Quality Video will also surely be using an AV receiver to handle quality audio??! The reflective screen really isn't an issue for me. For £450 delivered new-in-box from another well known retailers fire-sale I think I have a bargain!! ;-)

I am very pleased with this product because the picture quality is so good, but the sound quality does not match. In adition the apps are limited and the browser crashes ocasionally, but these were not so important to me.
