I brought this model after a long search for a silver blu ray player and I liked the fact that it was nice and small too. 3D was a bonus, and the built in wi-fi for accessing updates and the iPlayer worked brilliantly.Unfortunately, the first one shipped to me wouldn't play any Blu Ray discs. Bit of a bummer that for a Blu Ray player. It was fine with some DVDs but not all.
Obviously I sent it back and got a replacement, which arrived very quickly (credit due to Amazon there). I hooked up the new one and it worked perfectly for Blu Ray discs, so I tidied and hid all the cables and prepared to enter the next generation. Then my daughter wanted to watch an old DVD and the player simply wouldn't recognise the disc. Or any other DVD - even one freshly unwrapped.
Having retroactively searched for help on this player, I found many reports of similar problems and Samsungs helpline gave me the number of the local repair centre who could replace the laser which is apparently the problem with these units, but who wants to wait for a brand new item to be repaired?

The unit is asthetically beautiful, extremely slim and the ring of light oozes class, when not distracting you from the movie that is.When the unit worked it was fantastic, picture great and fairly quick blu-ray loading times. Unfortuantely after owning the unit for little over a month it would no longer recognise blu ray discs and has been returned for repair. It appears this is a rather common complaint for the unit if you view the US amazon.com page for the product.
As soon as Samsunng work out the kinks I'm sure it will be a worthwhile purchase, but not at present.

This is a great product which I bought for two main reasons: ability to stream LoveFilm movies and ability to stream music & videos from my laptop using Samsung's AllShare technology. Unfortunately, this device is suffering from being such new technology that support and compatibility has not yet caught up so that there are two big issues with this player.LOVEFILM NOT AVAILABLE:
There is a lot of confusion and misinformation surrounding the ability to stream LoveFilm using this device. Be warned: LOVEFILM IS NOT AVAILABLE/COMPATIBLE WITH THIS DEVICE despite all the press about this. I have contacted Samsung and LoveFilm support about this, and neither has been able to offer clear, unambiguous information about when this service will actually be available. All they do say is that it will definitely be available at some point in the future but cannot confirm any dates.
AllShare NOT MAC COMPATIBLE:
Again, another cautionary note here: ability to use the AllShare is ONLY FOR PC'S. I have a Mac and there are compatibility issues. Luckily there is a clever web service (free) called TVMobili which is easy enough to set up and I have been able to get this to work. However, it only works with non-Apple formats i.e. it won't work with m4p files so be warned.
It is unfortunate that Samsung advertise being able to do both of these effortlessly with their new BluRay players when it just isn't true. Which is why I've rated this device only 3 stars for now. Compatibility will come, but it's not there yet.
