the worst fault found was the disc drive, it was very , yes very noisy in it's operating . Almost drowning out the programme on the disc . Resulting in turning up the volume. Having always purchased Samsung products this is very disappointing. 1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this!, 10 Mar 2013

I didn't buy this item from amazon but wanted to warn any potential purchases.I bought the Samsung BDE8300M Smart PVR 3 and for three weeks it was great. Then all the tv channels dissapeared and could not be tuned back in. The Samsung technician said it is a known fault. The retailer won't change it because I had had the pvr 30 days- I hadn't set it up straight away. They offered repair. The situation is ongoing because I don't believe the item is of satisfactory quality. Looking at the other reviewers I guess I'm right on this one. So three months later I have an unrepaired pvr and haven't had the viewing experience I was expecting.
Don't touch it with a barge pole.

The product I am sure does all it is meant to but the manual is too complex and unintelligible to even the computer literate young let alone the older generation who simply want to do the basic things. Watch TV in HD and Record Off Air. I accept that my slow internet doesn't help when one wants to use BBC I player The ITV equivalent doesnt show up as available.I have tried Emailin Samsung for a basic Guide without a response.

The instructions how to operate the product were quite inadequate. Also I do not like the delay on clicking on Play Back etc with the message "loading" coming up. No delay, for example, when using the Sky H-D Box. Otherwise the product is OK. 1.0 out of 5 stars oh oh, 22 Feb 2013

Bought this to go with my 8000 serires tv, (which is great) However even with the bad reviews i thought i'd give it a go. Unfortunately mine did not even power up! Called samsung who would repair not replace-not happy as only 3 days old.Amazon were/are great and awaiting courier to pick it up for a refund. Now wondering what one to buy!!!!

Really buggy product – updated firmware on installation but it had a tendency to freeze if a Blu-ray was stopped rather than ejected (without stopping) until a couple of more firmware updates later. The Freeview turner failed after less than 5 months and Samsung’s less than helpful response was that it was Amazon’s problem to resolve not theirs. Contacted Amazon and got fantastic service as usual - opted for a refund after reading that the tuner was a common problem and have subsequently opted for a What Hi-Fi 5* rated Sony Blu-ray and separate PVR. Will be avoiding Samsung in future as a product of this price from a major manufacturer should not fail after 5 months, and even when it was working it had the feel of something released too early with beta firmware. When it worked it was great - I can’t fault the quality of the picture or sound, but a really poor effort in so many other ways. One to avoid. 5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Piece of Kit., 31 Jan 2013

With lots of features this box appeared quite good value when compared to other similar boxes. Also I have a Samsung TV so made sense to get Samsung Bluray player so that remote controls worked together etc.I ignored several of the bad reviews associated with this product assuming firmware teething problems that would quickly go away. This turned out to be an error of judgement. I've had the box for several months now and I'm finding firmware v1011 is still plagued with problems and probably slightly worse than v1010 was; the worst problem being the very frequent complete system crashes which always result in loss of current recordings and often all painstakingly entered recording schedules.
When it works it's quite good but it's far too unreliable at the moment. Sorting it out properly is obviously quite low on Samsung's to-do list - Annoying!
Also a suggestion for Samsung: If I have one of these boxes and one or more of your TVs in my house (all being networked), why not let any of my TVs access my recordings from the box so that they can be played back on any TV in my house. Wouldn't that be a handy feature?
Anyway, fingers crossed that v1012 is much better....

I bought this product from Curry's, so not from Amazon, and maybe I'm lucky or I have a fully updated model, but I plugged it in, it detected my WiFi and quickly updated itself so I have full access to BBC iPlayer, YouTube etc, no problem. The sound and picture quality are excellent and I even get to watch all the HD channels now that I couldn't before.Things to be aware of though, that they don't tell you...
1. To sync your TV with the new remote control, you need to add a zero to the 2 digit code it gives you. My TV is an Hitachi 32" HD and the code it gives in the manual is 60, so make it 060 and it works perfectly, so now I don't need any other remote!
2. To record a programme in the future, find it on the Guide using the remote and then enter it - this gives you an option to Record. Enter that and it automatically sets the timer. Couldn't be easier! However, the accompanying booklet doesn't seem to mention this for some reason.
3. I was told by the assistant in Curry's that I would need an HDMI cable and stupidly paid £20 for one. It wasn't necessary - it plays well enough with the cables provided! As it happens the HDMI cable I bought was faulty, which caused a few frustrations to begin with. I've taken it back and ordered a better one off of Amazon for £3.95 (even tho I probably don't need one, but I would like to see if the picture is even better using one).
A problem that I haven't been able to resolve yet, is how to change the screen aspect size using the new remote. I am still having to use the TV's remote to do this when, on the occasion, it plays a DVD at the wrong aspect. If anyone knows how to do this on the new remote, please share!
I have had no problems playing DVDs or playing recorded programmes whatsoever and long may this continue.
All in all, a great product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Far from being any good - and no rewind live TV function!, 27 Dec 2012

I've been using Humax PVRs successfully for 10 years but with my wife getting fed up with 3 remotes and, after buying a new Samsung SMART TV, I was looking for an all-in-one solution that would do the telly, Freeview, Recording and Blu-Ray / DVD.At first I ordered the 1TB version which the blu-ray player did not work so I had to send it back. I reordered the 500GB version instead.
On paper the Samsung does sound brilliant - it has everything i was looking for in a PVR:
1) I could use one remote for the telly, PVR and blu-ray player
2) Can record, pause and rewind up to 2 channels of live TV.
The second point has proved to be a sticking point with the rewind function being "Not Available" unless you are in time slip mode i.e. if you have previously paused a live programme.
This is crazy and is the only PVR I have come across not to rewind live TV. Samsung are crafty because, after re-reading the promotional material, they do not disclose that you can NOR cannot rewind live TV - they simply don't mention rewind. So technically it's not "not fit for purpose".
Next year, I'll be looking for a new solution if another manufacturer releases a PVR/Blu-ray combo and wouldn't recommend this product.
