I have had this product for a few months now and... well honestly, I have been rather disappointed.

First of all the Blu-ray player has quite a long warm-up time(28 seconds to be precise) before you can use it, and whilst there may be an option to reduce the start-up time, it's just not worth it because it uses more power and might as-well be on all the time.

Secondly, the unit creates a humming noise which I think may be the fan, but I can't be too sure, this had became more noticeable to me when I had been watching a film, or using it to output audio via optical cable from another device. To stop me from noticing the sound, I have to completely close the glass doors on my TV cabinet, which is something I shouldn't have to do.

As for the quality of the DVD, Blu-ray & 3D Blu-ray playback, absolutely outstanding, it up-scales DVD's well, the loading times for the Blu-ray disks aren't that slower than my previous devices, and the 3D output is great (providing you have a 3D blu-ray disk and TV/device that supports this feature).

Okay, so what about internet features? I actually couldn't test this part out as it's located nowhere near the router to connect it via Ethernet cable as it doesn't have Wi-Fi built in, which the title suggests. Though I did go on Sony's website to double check and whilst it doesn't have "Wi-Fi" in the title, in the features section, it suggests wireless connectivity without clearly mentioning you actually need to buy an expensive Sony UWA-BR100 - Network adapter - USB as other branded Wi-Fi dongles do not work.

When it comes to the sound quality, it's definitely decent, however I wouldn't say it's great. Maybe it's because I've been using a really old yet amazing Panasonic 1000W 5.1 surround system for the last few years, I may be being a bit judgemental because this doesn't compare to my old system? And whilst it would be naive of me to even think this may give close quality to the sound I've been so used to listening to, the fact that I have heard something so much better, it's hard for me to see the good points when the quality is worse.

Personally, I would say save up some extra cash and splash it on a higher model, but for those who really don't want to fork out loads on a system, who want brilliant picture quality and decent sound, then I would recommend going for this one.

This is our first home cinema system, and I have to say we're extremely impressed. The picture is clear and the sound is sharp and precise. The internet connectivity is simple and just works. It was easy to set up and use. I think for a hair over £200 it's fantastic value for money, and well worth the extra compared to a normal dvd player - although the speakers do make me jump out of my skin at scary points!

i've been using this player for just under a month and am extremely pleased with it. As a 3D Blu-ray player it's performance is as expected from Sony; top notch picture quality on both normal and Blu-ray discs, and astounding on Blu-ray 3D. The user menus and interface is subtly displayed as white on black background, are easily followed and easy to use. The handset can be paired with a Sony tv, however I viewed the results on a Samsung 51" 3D tv and the 3D dvd playback was amazing.

As far as the sound is concerned you can select playback via tv or through the supplied speakers. The speakers are connected easily to the back of the player using color coded wires. Using the 2.1 speakers the sound is obviously far meatier than through tv speakers but obviously not as good as through a more expensive 5.1 system, and to be fair, to compare this against a 5.1 system is unfair as its price is reflective of its intended market - which isn't the 5.1 bracket.

In its own right and for the cost, the package offered here by Sony provides great value for money; - an upscaling 3D dvd Blu-ray player, and a decent sound delivery system. I'd recommend it for those who are looking for a good quality sound system, something far better than the sound from a tv set but without all the expense of a whistles and bells 5.1 system. With the added quality that automatically comes with Sony this package offers good all round performance and value for money. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite the full cinema effect, but pretty close..., 12 July 2012

The 3D Blu-ray player with this system is really good, is easy to set up and easy to use. However for the best effect you need an HDMI cable that is 1.4a compliant 1.2M Pro (1.4a Version, 3D) HDMI TO HDMI CABLE WITH ETHERNET,COMPATIBLE WITH 1.4,1.3c,1.3b,1.3,1080P,PS3,XBOX 360,SKYHD,FREESAT,VIRGIN BOX,FULL HD LCD,PLASMA , LED TV s AND ALSO SUPPORTS 3D TVS and an Ethernet cable Duronic 1.5m FTP Professional Gold Headed Network Cable - Black - High Speed Premium Quality Cat6e / Patch / Ethernet / Modem / Router / LAN so you can hardwire it to your broadband connection, the WiFi connection is fine but you'll need to buy a dongle if you don't have one and to be honest hardwiring is generally better and provides a more consistent connection. But all of this is extra kit you'll need to buy because it's not included with the system. To enjoy the benefit of the system through a satelite system you'll also need an optical cable, which, you've guessed it also isn't supplied Digital Optical Cable - 1m - Premium Pro Gold Range Toslink Cable suitable for PS3,Sky,Sky HD,LCD,LED,Plasma, Blu Ray to Connect with Home Cinema Systems,AV Amps Etc. for Best Digital Surround Sound,UK Seller.. You can get decent quality cables reasonably cheaply but expect even then to pay an extra £15-£25 and some retailers will try to get you to part with £40+ and that's just to get you to the stage where it works.

The benefit you get from this extra kit is that it allows you to access the online content; firmware updates and the Sony equivalent of Panasonic's Viera system plus you also get the best results for sound and picture. In addition if you also have a new Bravia TV (2011 on models) it links in seamlessly with it and allows you to control both with one remote.

The picture is clear in 3D and doesn't lose clarity in action sequences, which can sometimes happen with fast moving 3D action as the system processor struggles to cope with the massive amount of information that makes up a 3D image. The sound quality is also pretty good. The other benefit to this player is it will upscale your DVD's to almost Blu-Ray quality with a full HD TV.

Whilst the two speakers plus the subwoofer do their best to provide surround sound they don't quite achieve it. However, the sound quality is superior to that produced by the majority of even expensive flat screen TV's because sound quality is generally the one area in modern TV manufacture that is sacrificed to produce the slimmer profile that everyone wants. The system requires a smallish room so it can bounce sound of the walls to give the effect of surround sound. If you're in a big room you'll lose that virtual surround effect and really need rear speakers to provide it. If that's the case then your money would be better spent on a 5.1 home cinema system.

That said, it's still a good mid-price mid-range 3D home cinema system that in an appropriately sized room is worth the money.

The system is extremely good and very easy to set up. Great value for money if you have a relatively small room in which to view/listen to the various functions. However I was disappointed that the Ipod/Iphone and USB cabling were missing from the system package sent to me.

This is the first Blu-ray player I have actually ever looked at (aside from the PS3). Before I thought that Blu-rays were a bit of a gimmick and that the picture quality was not that much better. I am eating my words now. I have to admit that I am very impressed by the clarity of the picture, everything is so much sharper. This player has the added advantage of upscaling dvds as well. Again, I was sceptical but actually you can see an improvement if you compare a dvd on a standard dvd player and a dvd played on this blu ray player. I don't have a 3D TV so I cannot comment on the 3D , however normal Blu Rays look fantastic on this machine! I would recommend the David Attenborough Box sets (Life, Planet Earth...).

The menu is really easy to navigate and anyone familiar with Sony products such as the PS3 will find the layout familiar. The remote is simple and only has buttons you actually need! I quite like the dimmer button which dims the display on the player - how annoying is it when you are watching a film in a dark room and all you can see is the time the disc has been playing??

It does say it is a home theatre system. However, you only get a subwoofer and two front speakers. This is fine for a smaller living room or a bedroom but if you have a large room and want the full cinema experience you would probably want a home theatre system with the surround sound speakers as well. The sound is great from it. I watched Harry Potter and it really sounded fantastic, you can hear every subtle noise and it is really impressive. You can also play CDs on it and it is a good option if you are limited on space as you don't have to have a separate cd player and the sound is great. There are different sound modes: Audio enhancer, Sports, 2ch stereo, demo sound, auto, movie and music. It is worth playing around with these as different discs suit different modes!

Overall design of the player - beautiful! It is sleek and really modern looking. It is not flat, it has a curved top so you couldn't really put anything on top of it but why would you want to as it is a lovely looking machine - show it off!

It says it is wifi compatible, however in order to use this function, you need to have a USB wireless LAN adapter which is not included in the box (I think on the Sony website the official Sony one is £69 or £50 at the moment on Amazon). You can also connect to the internet via a LAN cable....however (you guessed it) this is also not included!

I would say it is a great Blu Ray and home theatre system for a bedroom or a small living room as it is a 2.1 system rather than a 5.1 which is fine for a smaller room but in a bigger room you will find yourself missing the full surround sound experience. Also remember to add an HDMI cable to your basket as it is not included in the box (as with most players)!

Overall, 4 out of 5, I had to drop one star as I was disappointed that it was not wifi compatible straight out of the box without having to buy an extra accessory. I cannot fault the sound or picture quality as it looks and sounds fantastic. Do have a think about where you want to put it though, as if it is going to be your main surround sound system you might be better having a look around, however for a bedroom or an additional room it is perfect!
