having bought it before Christmas and I did not use it for a three weeks because there are various parts and cables needed for a connection.at the end of 4th weeks there were vertical lines on the display and it tooks me a week to relise something wrong with the projectore. Amazon failed to took it back and I had to send it to Optpmo for repairs and a month past and I am still awiting for the projector.
important: if you are intended to connect it through an adptor or joint in the cables the signal will not display.

This has been my first projector and I am completely blown away. It is amazing, bright, sharp, clean. I love it. As a first time buyer I did a ton of work in finding one and I am very happy with this. I am projecting onto a 3m wide screen and it's all i dreamed it would be.There are two drawbacks but this is my fault rather then the projectors.
I would have liked to mount the projector off to the side but I don't see a way of adjusting the image fore that. Keystone seems to change the trapezoid and thats about it. This would not have changed my decision but i had decided where i was going to mount it at the time.
Both myself and my wife see the rainbow effect when there are large amounts of black. Frankenweenie is a good example of one that gives us a lot of RBE. I have a friend staying with me who has not been told about RBE and he hasn't complained/mentioned it yet. My wife has now stated that i should have not told her about it :) Besides large amounts of black, we don't see it any other time.
Some people have complained about the RBE but i cant say specifically that it is this projector model that causes it as its my first one. I can ignore it for now.

This review is from: Optoma HD230X Full HD 1080p Home Cinema Projector (Electronics)
Had this bought as a christmas present after having put it on a wish list as a joke! and I have to say, the image quality really is remarkable, we've had it in the bedroom for a couple of days with an Alienware laptop connected to it that can do 1920x1080 and even playing just DVD's the 82" image it's throwing onto the wall is razor sharp. When it's just displaying the computers desktop even the clock in the bottom right hand corner (windows 7) is perfectly readable about 10 feet away which I definitely wasn't expecting after having seen the Epson's they use at work that cost around double - absolutely blows those away.I've yet to try it with a HDMI connected blu ray but that'll be happening in a few days as one's on it's way, our home cinema will be complete.
With most things it's the neat little touches that make things that bit better to live with long term and the Optoma doesn't disappoint, the remote control has the neat function of lighting up a nice blue colour when you use it - handy if you use your projector in a darkened room as we do, most if not all projectors have a way of raising the front should you need to angle it upwards, not seen many that you can raise at the rear if you want it to point downwards slightly - again a handy useful touch if you need it. There are plenty of input options - 2 HDMI's, VGA and stuff like composite video that most home users don't bother with, small detail but you get batteries with the remote - saves having to find some AAA's in a hurry, theres a UK and a european power cable and a basic 'getting going' type instructions - men you can all ignore this, throw it away immediately, it's so easy to use only the girls will have to RTFM.
Overall, it's an absolute steal at this price, the image quality is surprisingly good, as projectors go it looks ok, it doesn't make too much noise but it does throw out a lot of heat - oh and after much searching I found a UK seller (there are lots that claim to be in the uk but aren't) that sells replacement lamps for £106 so compared to others - bargain. This machine is a win win all round, I can't find anything to fault with it.
UPDATE: Have now used this projector with a HDMI connected blu ray and it just gets better and better, at the same 82" mentioned before watching Avatar was just astonishing, the detail was pin sharp with deep contrast and vibrant colour. I'll never ever buy a TV again because after viewing the quality this projector has to offer a TV will just seem like watching TV on a mobile phone - it really is that good - and I have to admit to not being someone that's easily impressed.

I was nervous having read some reviews here and elsewhere however I am very impressed- the image quality is amazing and it requires no set up. I've not tried the internal speaker but have attached it to a Pioneer Receiver which gives me a fantastic home cinema setup for about £900. Five stars. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful

Gob smacking picture quality for sure out of the box, esay setup and small footprint. I had never experienced the rainbow effect (dlp) but now I have I might have considered other more expensive lcd options. I'm wondering if it can have any harmful long term effects on your eyes....it's fine in a slow moving content but give it action and you might feel you are in the Wizard of Oz. Time will tell. 0 of 9 people found the following review helpful

i have been using this 2 weeks now and must say it is most excellent, this was an upgrade from my old Infocus 4805 which was a great picture at the time but the fan noise was always an issue, not so with this machine the fan is very quiet, i would say that it's as quiet if not quieter than the fan in my Xbox. The picture quality is superb on Blue Ray and on the HD cable channels, the pre-set colour modes are pretty good and suit most things, if you have a light on "Bright Mode" is excellent and watching a film just switch to the reference mode and turn all the lights out . The through on this is shorter that my old projector so it is making a larger picture and i needed a new screen. This wasn't a bad thing as i now have a nice new 93" motorised screen which looks excellent. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful

Within an hour there were numerous vertical white lines right across. Forums confirmed this to be serious bad news, found in old dying projectors! I read up the replacement/refund process. No problem with Amazon who were great, they replaced it before the old one was collected [see below, and that works fine so far]. Just a bit of a hassle repackaging then. Not quite. The BIG problem was Yodel who were due to collect. Their website was down so I could not see when they were due to collect. I was in all day, waiting. Finally around 6pm I could access their site and read they were due to collect around 8.30pm. But NO SHOW. Day 2 I could not get into the scheduling on the Yodel site as my "post code does not exist". It did the day before. It does now. Yodel came at 1.30pm Day 2, and put a note thru, but were so quick my wife did not have time to get to the door. Amazon reallocated collection to Citylink and they came about 9.30am, 1/2 hour ahead of schedule, Day 3.
The replacement is, so far anyway, excellent. No rainbow effect seen. The screen is brighter that the first [clearly defective] one. Easy to use, recommended. Just find time to test it early tho'

I have to give this projector the full 5 stars. The image it produces is outstanding for the cost, under £600 when purchased. The projector is set up in 2 minutes and displaying full 1080p from bluray. My partner was actually very impressed and she's not a huge tech buff like me. Still waiting on a 100" screen to arrive so can only assume the quality, somehow, will be even better on a proper screen. But as of rig now, having had this 2 days, and watched 2 movies on it I can safely say this is worth the money. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful

Amazing HD picture out of the box! SD films are acceptable but that is not the projector's fault I guess. No rainbow effect detected. Pretty quiet.Excellent value!
