This was very easy to set up and works perfectly with a great picture, also if you have a home network running you can connect it up to the internet and watch iplayer and youtube on your TV.
All in all a great product at a great price.

Panasonic DMR-NW120 picture and sound very good, recording simple that's the good bits.
EPG text could be bolder if you want information about the program highlighted you have to press the info button it could have a text box at top of screen that showed this.
Same thing applies to the playback screen is shown in pages why not a scroll (no jumping as goes to the next page) with the highlighted recording having an info box at the top of the screen? No you have to press another button
Menus are laborious and it seems a lot of hard work to get to where you want to be.
Internet it has the BBC I-player where are the rest? (ITV Player, 4OD, Demand 5, youveiw and why not Ebay) You can't program them in yourself? Is this Panasonic laziness? Not updating the software on a regular basis?
I bought this to replace a 5 year old asda own brand this was so easy to use compared to the Panasonic. The EPG could be adjusted to how YOU wanted to display it with an info text box for the highlighted program. The recorded content could be set to display in 4 or 5 ways with an info text box for the highlighted recording it had single button access to most functions.
The Panasonic has really good picture and sound if only it had as good software it's not quite bad to use its just not good to use and it could be put right even now with an online upgrade to the software. For such a well known company to spend so little effort on the software side seems unbelievable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome bit of kit (for me), 4 Jan 2013

Panasonic DMR-HW120EBK 500GB HDD Recorder with Twin Freeview +HD Tuners (New for 2012)

I purchased this via Richer Sounds outside of Amazon to get the 5 year Supercare warranty. It's just a great piece of kit and looks the business, slick and pretty. I connected it to my Samsung UE32H5000 32 inch HD LCD TV via a HDMI KING- 1.8M (6ft) Imperial Series HDMI KING v1.4 240hz+ HDMI Cable- Gold Plated, Double Insulated [Lifetime Warranty, Fuss-Free Packaging] lead and the picture is breathtaking. The EPG is very easy to use and the PVR is proving to be a reliable recorder.

However, the interface is a bit dated but is easy enough to use. The unit also incorporates 'chase play' so you can watch a programme from the start whilst it is still recording and it has 2 tuners so you can record 2 broadcasts at the same time.

It has an SD card reader and 2 USB Ports and can playback a vast range of digital formats.

I've read on the internet that it lacks in the area of Smart TV Apps, but as I'm not connecting to the internet, it is not an issue for me. You may want to do your research on that if, potentially, it's an issue for you.

For my purposes, I'm very happy with it, hence the 5 star rating.

Having bought this to replace an older unit with out free view so i could record items on to hard drive then put them onto another hard drive so they could be played if reuired on a pc i found this was not possible to do. you can add another hard drive to transfer items off internal hard drive but they only play through the unit and not any other way so this item should be steered clear of. Hence this will be returned asap and will order an LG unit that is far better than this one.Do not see why Panasonic have do this no point in buying it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but dated, 31 Dec 2012

Was looking for a user friendly freeview recorder for the other half to use after a small amount of research I found this - looked good compared to some of the other options out there.

Pros:
Good brand name
Lots of features (mp3 image playback etc)
Does what it says on the tin
Was easy to setup

Cons:
The whole interface is pretty dated now and isn't the easiest to use (although should suffice)
The killer for me was that it only (currently) offers iplayer catchup with none of the other channels. The whole viera Internet thing feels like something you'd expect 5-10 years ago

Unfortunately I only discovered youview after taking reciept of this recorder. Youview looks far superior and had a fantastic looking interface. (Although doesn't currently support wifi)

This does everything it is described to do. It is easy to use and the setup is very simple, just connect it and switch on! It took me through the setup without having to read the instruction book (great!)The twin drive makes it more flexible when wanting to record and watch something different at the same time. I went for this model because the internet connection was in it. The cheaper one you had to purchase the connector separately, which turned out to cost more when all put together!

3.0 out of 5 stars Reliability concerns, 30 Dec 2012

This review is from: Panasonic DMR-HW220EBK 1TB HDD Recorder with Twin Freeview +HD Tuners (New for 2012) (Electronics)
On the face of it this is an attractive piece of kit. It seemed easy enough to set up although I had to retune to get the HD channels. Linking to to my wireless router was easy enough. As a Freeview tuner it works okay including on HD. Unfortunately I only managed to record two programs before the recorder part of this stopped working. It would not record new programs and the two that should have been there had disappeared. The only good thing is that Amazon had no quibbles about taking it back. Judging by comments of others there may be serious concerns about the reliability of the Panasonic DMR-HW220EBK

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the most part, some small disappointments., 30 Dec 2012

For the most part, it works well and reliably. The information display is nice and clear. The handbook is very inadequate.
Disappointing that the "home networking" feature doesn't work - it cannot detect the wifi signal which other devices in the same room can detect. Disappointing that there is no simple fast-forward. Disappointing that the programme information
cannot be displayed while a recording is playing. Disappointing that there is no SCART output to allow a DVD recorder to be connected.

I would not buy the same again.
